Disability group urges resolution to prevent JTRAN strike

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Disability Rights Mississippi (DRMS) urged the City of Jackson and all parties involved in ongoing negotiations with JTRAN’s transit management contractor, MV Transportation, to work toward a resolution that prevents any interruption in public transportation services.

According to DRMS, local transit union leadership is expected to vote on June 12, 2026, at noon regarding a potential JTRAN strike.

“Any potential strike or interruption of Jackson Transit and Paratransit services will have a detrimental impact on citizens with disabilities who rely on public transportation for work, essential medical appointments, groceries, and other daily needs,” said Hunter Robertson, staff attorney at DRMS. “Disability Rights Mississippi urges the City, MV Transit, and Union to do everything they can to avoid a strike that would leave many of our most vulnerable citizens without crucial transportation.”

Earlier this month, the City of Jackson addressed concerns about a transit service proposal. They said the city has not approved any plans to modify current transit service levels, routes, operating hours or weekend service. They said any potential service changes remain under review and would require additional evaluation, public discussion and the appropriate approvals before implementation…
