ASHEVILLE, NC. (WLOS) — Seven months after Asheville Police Chief Mike Lamb retired, the city remains without a permanently appointed police chief, with City Manager D.K. Wesley saying it will be another three months before she makes the selection.
Interim Chief Jackie Stepp has led the Asheville Police Department since November, when former Police Chief Mike Lamb retired in November 2025.
Stepp, a 20-year veteran of the department, has earned respect from many officers and community members, but at this time, city leaders have chosen not to appoint her to the position permanently.
