The city of Toledo is creating rules and regulations around “special event safety zones” after a shooting at the Old West End festival injured 12 people.
In a letter to Toledo City Council, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said the proposed special event safety zone ordinance is “intended to provide the City with a flexible, narrowly tailored tool to address public safety concerns during large-scale events.”
The ordinance would create a new chapter of the city’s municipal code. If approved, it would authorize the mayor to establish a “safety zone” within the city. The safety zone would be temporary and limited to the duration of the event, including setup and takedown periods…
