Charlotte may have to repay NCDOT for rejected I-77 South toll plan

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A state lawmaker has proposed the idea of requiring Charlotte and other cities that rejected a plan to widen I-77 South to reimburse NCDOT for $60 million that was spent on design.

A draft amendment to a massive catch-all bill is currently circulating at the General Assembly in Raleigh. The amendment, authored by NC Sen. Vickie Sawyer (Iredell County), targets local governments that backed out of the project.

Charlotte would end up paying the lion’s share.
