Record budget reaches final stage

Rhode Island’s $15.2 billion fiscal 2027 budget moved toward approval after senators voted 32-6 and sent the record spending plan to Governor Dan McKee for review.

The proposal carries the highest spending total in state history, leaving one executive decision before Rhode Island’s fiscal year begins July 1 across public agencies and core operations.

Senate debate runs long

The Senate vote followed more than two hours of debate, as lawmakers reviewed the budget and considered 12 amendments that failed during the floor session inside the chamber.

All four Senate Republicans opposed the plan, joined by Democratic Senators Samuel W. Bell of Providence and Leonidas P. Raptakis of Coventry during the recorded Senate floor vote.
