First Alert Weather: Hot weekend ahead with a chance for storms

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good afternoon and happy Saturday!

Temperatures are warming up quickly this morning with many of us in the upper 80s and lower 90s shortly before noon.

This afternoon and evening: High temperatures will likely warm into the lower 90s with a heat index around 100-103°F. The sky will likely remain partly to mostly cloudy with a 30% chance for a few storms. The greatest chance to see rain today will likely occur south of Interstate 20. Most of us will likely remain hot and dry.

If you have any evening plans, we will hold on to a small rain chance with temperatures cooling into the lower 80s by 8 p.m. It will be a very muggy evening with sunset occurring at 7:58 p.m. CDT.

Scattered storms possible Sunday: We will likely wake up mostly dry tomorrow morning with temperatures in the low-to-mid-70s. We want to give you a First Alert for the potential to see scattered storms tomorrow afternoon and evening. The sky will likely remain partly to mostly cloudy with highs approaching the lower 90s. It will remain very muggy tomorrow, so the heat index will likely approach 100°F again.

Scattered storms may develop to our north and dive to the south tomorrow afternoon and evening. A strong storm can’t be ruled out tomorrow. The main threat will be heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning. The best chance to see storms tomorrow will likely occur between noon and 8 p.m…
