St. Helens city administrator reported dead after going missing in river

ST. HELENS, Ore. (KATU) — A search and rescue operation was underway in the Columbia River after St. Helens City Administrator John Walsh was reported missing in the water near the St. Helens City docks late Saturday night.

Around 2 p.m., Mayor of Rainier, Oregon, Jerry Cole said in a post on social media that Walsh, the longtime St. Helens city administrator, had died.

“On behalf of the City of Rainier, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire St. Helens community. John dedicated many years of service to local government and worked tirelessly on behalf of the citizens he served.
