Girls soccer: Oregon outlasts Madison West in sectional final classic

For the last two weeks, the Oregon girls soccer team has spent extra time working on penalty kicks.

The Panthers’ PK prep paid off as Oregon knocked off Madison West 3-1 in a penalty shootout in a WIAA Division 1 sectional championship on Saturday, June 13, at Waunakee High School.

“Our conversation heading into PKs is that there’s no way that they’re more prepared for these than us,” Oregon coach Chris Mitchell said. “This is why we did what we did when we trained. We’re ready for this, let’s get it done. They were confident. Ava’s (Butsic) shot just got saved, the keeper just guessed the right way. Those other three shots were unsavable. But those girls were burying them in practice like that for the last two weeks.”

The game went to penalty kicks after 100 minutes of scoreless play.

“Our motto is ‘Get it done’ and to us that means no matter what – doesn’t have to be pretty, it can be ugly – just get it done,” senior goalie Reese McCabe said…
