One of Portland’s most controversial paintings is back at PDX

A controversial painting that once stirred “violent opposition” among the public is back on the walls at the Portland International Airport.

The piece, a large abstract mural by renowned Oregon painter Louis Bunce, has been given a prominent new location as the Port of Portland finishes up its $2.15 billion renovation project.

“It was the port’s first major commission and it’s such an important historical piece for the collection and for the history of the port and the region,” Wendy Given, art program manager for the Port of Portland, said. “We just thought the story and the work was important to try to save.”…
