PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Record-breaking heat returned to the Pacific Northwest on Monday afternoon and evening.
Many areas across the greater Portland-Vancouver area are briefly hitting 100 degrees on Monday evening. Portland’s new preliminary record goes down as 97 degrees for Monday, June 15. The old record for this day in June was 95 degrees, last set in 1966.
The high heat does have an expiration date. A nearly 10-15 degree temperature drop is expected to arrive on Tuesday afternoon. An onshore flow will help clear wildfire smoke and drop temperatures into the mid-80s for the Willamette Valley.
