It’s been close to 72 hours since Jalen Brewster left campus and the Florida Gators are looking like a major threat to flip the Rivals/On3 top-rated player in the country from his longtime commitment to Texas Tech.
There’s still a ways to go in this recruitment. Brewster is going to be in Lubbock for his official visit this weekend, and then we’ll get a better idea of how close Jon Sumrall and the Gators staff is to making the biggest move during this recruiting cycle. Steve Wiltfong, the Rivals/On3 VP of Recruiting, believes that Florida is more than simply a live dog in Brewster’s recruitment: The Gators might be the only team that the five-star defensive lineman would consider playing for other than the Red Raiders.

“Florida remains the biggest challenger to Texas Tech and I think they’ve poured a lot into this recruitment on and off the field,” Wiltfong said on “The Inside Scoop.” Obviously, he’s given LSU a chance. Indiana is a program that they’ve always had a keen eye on. SMU has also been involved. But the three visits to Florida, the relationship with the coaching staff, the trajectory of the program, how much he just loves being at Florida and then having the resources to be in a recruitment like this…I think Florida is pushing Texas Tech at this point in the process.”
