Flash flooding in Shreveport strands 60+ cars, results in 25 crashes

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Shreveport police responded to more than 60 stranded vehicles and 25 car crashes after flash flooding swept through multiple parts of the city, prompting the fire department to respond to 50 weather-related emergency calls.

“The most dangerous thing we’ve seen throughout this has been individuals trying to drive through high water,” Shreveport Police Department Cpl. Chris Bordelon said. “That causes their vehicle to stall out, and it creates traffic congestion and puts them in danger due to the high water.”

Bob Russell was traveling southbound on North Market Street when floodwaters overtook his vehicle.

“I panicked. Inches of rain, and all of a sudden it was flooding right there,” Russell said. “I had no time to stop, and when I did, the engine stalled. Now, because people go through so fast, I’m watching my car float.”…
