Significant detours for drivers between Belfair and Bremerton are ongoing through the rest of the month of June, as part of Highway 3 near Sunnyslope Road closed June 16 and will continue until Monday, June 29.
Both directions of Highway 3 near the road are closed for a Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) project that will remove barriers to fish passage under the highway.
The highway closure allows contractor crews to remove and replace a culvert, which blocks fish passage under the highway. During the closure, crews will install a large prefabricated concrete culvert and build a natural creek bed to make it easier for fish to travel up and downstream, according to WSDOT.
