EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) – Effingham County commissioners voted to deny a proposed 1,000-home subdivision planned for the southern Guyton area, citing concerns about drainage and added traffic on a two-lane road.
The board voted to reject the development during Tuesday’s meeting. The decision was not unanimous. Commissioners voting against the project said the subdivision, proposed for Zitterouer Road, would strain infrastructure that has been discussed for years but has not materialized.
“We’ve been waiting so long and depending on these infrastructure improvements, and promised this and promised that and they just haven’t happened,” Commissioner Roger Burdette, who represents District 2, said during the meeting. “We cannot count on these things, not timing wise; it’s really put us in a pickle as far as what we’ve got coming to us and what we want to do now.”…
