FIRST ALERT: Tracking the next storm chance on Thursday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Rain is expected to hold off for today, but temperatures and humidity are on the rise, setting the stage for severe storms on Thursday.

WEDNESDAY: Temperatures will soar into the mid to upper 80s, bringing typical summertime warmth to East Tennessee. The winds will pick up, resulting in gusty conditions throughout the afternoon.

THURSDAY: We are closely monitoring Thursday for the highest chance of rain and possible thunderstorms. The day will begin with slight chances for spotty showers, but by the evening, storm activity is expected to intensify, particularly in our southern Kentucky counties. Tropical Storm Arthur is providing moisture to the region and, combined with a storm system in the Midwest, will increase the likelihood of gusty winds and potential flooding. The highest chance for storms will be between 2 PM and 11 PM.

FRIDAY: Storms will mostly clear overnight, with lingering showers expected in the morning. By the afternoon, conditions will calm down significantly with partly cloudy skies, setting up a pleasant start to the weekend…
