Human remains found in Sulphur Springs identified; Athens man arrested after investigation

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas (KLTV) – Forensic testing has identified human remains found in Sulphur Springs as a 26-year-old Dallas man, the Sulphur Springs Police Department announced Wednesday.

Through DNA analysis, the human remains found May 2 near a home on Mark Street were identified as Dennis Damont Weems Jr., a police spokesperson wrote in a press release.

Police arrested a 25-year-old Athens man for abuse of corpse after an investigation into the remains, the spokesperson wrote.

Devarrius Damontre Richardson was held Wednesday at the Hopkins County Jail on a $500,000 bond for tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair human corpse, according to jail records…
