Extremely warm Wednesday with heat advisories & fire danger on the table

(SOUTHERN COLORADO) –Southern Colorado will see a big temperature bump today, with highs running about 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. This warming is thanks to northwest flow aloft and an embedded jet streak, which will enhance the downsloping winds we commonly see here in Colorado. As a result, we will see increasing wind, drier conditions, elevated fire danger, and very warm temperatures across the region.

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday for Pueblo and El Paso counties, along with portions of Fremont County. Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 90s and lower 100s, making for a very hot day outdoors. Be sure to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, and check on those who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

Wind-wise, we will see an increase in winds west of Interstate 25, with gusts reaching up to 30 mph at times. Combined with very low humidity values, these conditions have prompted a Red Flag Warning for portions of the area. Along the Interstate 25 corridor and east onto the plains, it will still be noticeably breezy, but conditions are expected to remain below Red Flag criteria…
