EWEB Completes Forest Thinning Project in Leaburg

LEABURG: A timber harvest project in EWEB’s Leaburg Forest wrapped up earlier than expected this month, with crews completing work on June 11, roughly two weeks ahead of schedule.

The 16-acre project was part of the Eugene Water & Electric Board’s ongoing management of the 965-acre Leaburg Forest, which sits primarily above the Leaburg Canal. Utility officials said the work was designed to improve forest health, reduce landslide risks and support long-term watershed protection efforts.

The operation focused primarily on Douglas fir and western hemlock, while preserving clusters of trees throughout the harvest area to maintain wildlife habitat and structural diversity.
