The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch in Birmingham on Thursday, June 18, from 7:55 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. This warning applies to Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Marengo, Perry and Sumter counties.

At 7:55 a.m., the NWS issued a statement including the following information:
“THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED TORNADO WATCH 351 IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 p.m. CDT THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN ALABAMA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 7 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL ALABAMA DALLAS GREENE HALE LOWNDES MARENGO PERRY SUMTER THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF DEMOPOLIS, EUTAW, FORT DEPOSIT, GREENSBORO, LINDEN, LIVINGSTON, LOWNDESBORO, MARION, MOUNDVILLE, SELMA, UNIONTOWN, AND YORK.”
How do you stay safe during a tornado?
Get as low as possible, the National Weather Service says. A basement below ground level or the lowest floor of a building offers the greatest safety. Put as many walls between yourself and the outside as possible. Avoid windows.
