IRONDALE, Ala. (WBRC) – Blasting for the site of the future Irondale Costco will begin in summer 2026. In June, city leaders answered questions for neighbors who live near the development.
For construction to start on the state’s sixth Costco, crews will need to blast the site. Irondale Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr. said more than a million tons of soil and rock will be moved to make way for the warehouse.
The blasting portion of the project alone will take upwards of 10 months, but Stewart said the end result could create hundreds of jobs and millions in tax revenue.
“It’s going to be very intensive. There’s going to be a lot of moving parts going up there. But we are looking forward to it, we’re excited about it and we’re going to do everything as a city to make sure our citizens are protected,” Stewart said…
