NACS Superintendent announces retirement after 38 years in education

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Northwest Allen County Schools announced the impending retirement of their current superintendent, Wayne Barker.

According to a press release and letter provided by NACS, Barker will retire effective June 30, 2027. Barker says the announcement a year out is intentional to provide enough time for the NACS Board of School Trustees to create a plan to find a qualified replacement.

“The 2026-2027 school year will mark my 38th year in public education. As I reflect on those years, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunities I have been given to serve students, families, and communities throughout my career,” writes Barker.

For the past five years of his career, Barker served as superintendent of NACS, but he started as a business teacher at Carroll High School, allowing him to begin and end his career at NACS…
