Mobile County business offers free sand to prepare for storms

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Water is already rising in parts of Mobile County, and one local business is stepping up with free sand to help community members prepare for potential flooding.

Rising water is already visible in the Dog River area. Meanwhile, a large pile of sand sits at Woerner Turf and Landscape Supply on Cottage Hill Road, free for community members to take what they need to prepare.

Local business offers help

Outlet Manager Justin Kennedy says the business wants to offer help where it can.

“We are an active member in our community. We’ve served our customers in the community here for decade. We just want to be able to supply those needs in a time of need,” Kennedy said. “We all know this bad weather is on the way, so we’re just trying to help people where we can. Sand is a pretty malleable material. If you put it in a bag you can really pack it down. Using sandbags is a great way to prevent water from getting up to your doorstep and ultimately getting inside your house or other unwanted areas.”…
