Syracuse’s 38th annual Juneteenth celebration will take place this weekend from June 18-20 with a flag raising, parade and festival.

Juneteenth (June 19) marks the day at the end of the Civil War in 1865 that Union troops told the last slaves (in Galveston, Texas) they were free. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation from slavery nationwide and became a federal holiday in 2021.
