Greenfield tornado survivor has ‘Cyclone Rock’ that weathered twister repainted

ANKENY, Iowa – Nearly two decades ago, a Greenfield woman commissioned Freedom Rock artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen to paint her a rock for the Iowa State Cyclones. Now, that rock is getting a new paint job after surviving an EF-4 tornado.

Dixie Dingman’s home was completely destroyed by the Greenfield tornado. She barely survived the storm herself; Dingman was buried in her home and was rescued with a broken back.

While her family worked to sort through the rubble, they stumbled upon Dingman’s “Cyclone Rock.” She was elated to see it had survived the tornado…
