A new baby sloth is stealing hearts at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory in St. Paul, and it’s so cute I just can’t stand it!
A NEW BABY ‘HOFFMAN’S TWO-TOED SLOTH’
The zoo recently announced the arrival of a Hoffman’s two-toed sloth, and this little one is incredibly small. Staff says it’s no bigger than a grapefruit, but that paints a weird picture in my head.

If you’re trying to picture that size, think of a softball or a newborn kitten. The tiny sloth weighs less than a pound and spends most of its time clinging to mom.

Zoo staff doesn’t know if the little sloth is a boy or a girl, but zookeepers have already noticed one personality trait. The youngster is very interested in food. This baby is an eater!
According to zoo staff, if mom decides something is worth eating, the baby wants to try it too. While still nursing, the little sloth is beginning to show interest in the same fruits and vegetables that mom enjoys.
BABY WILL STAY ATTACHED TO MOM SLOTH FOR A LONG TIME
Baby sloths spend their first several months attached to their mothers, learning everything from what to eat to how to navigate their environment. Visitors may need to look closely to spot the youngster since it often blends in with mom’s fur while riding on her chest or back.
