WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Great Plains Nature Center welcomed its last guests on Thursday before the building shuts down for more than a year of repairs.
The center said discovering major foundational problems is what triggered the renovation, but it also opened opportunities to add new exhibits and update programming.
“After about 25 years of really just settling in here in the community, it’s just time for a refresh,” said Darah Jewell, the volunteer and event coordinator. “We’ve got a lot more opportunities for people to learn about different things here in Kansas. Native wildlife, habitats, and everything is always changing, so we figured it’s a perfect opportunity to really work with that.”
