Tennessee lawmaker files civil rights complaints against Department of Children’s Services

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee representative has filed 14 new civil rights complaints against the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, alleging disability discrimination and improper child removals.

State Rep. Aftyn Behn announced Friday morning that she is filing the complaints on behalf of 14 families in counties across Tennessee. The complaints cover counties including Knox, Davidson and Hamilton.

Behn filed the complaints with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office for Civil Rights. They claim to document patterns of disability discrimination, falsified case records and removals without court orders…
