How do you get to Carnegie Hall? For 10 singers from the Eden Prairie United Methodist Church (EPUMC) Chancel Choir, the answer was a mix of dedication, a bit of divine intervention and — just as the old joke says — practice, practice, practice.
On June 8, members of the EPUMC choir took the legendary New York City stage to perform “Magnificat,” culminating in an extraordinary journey that began nearly six years ago.
The connection dates back to 2020, when EPUMC’s Chancel Choir became one of the first ensembles to perform “Magnificat” virtually. In October, Kenny Potter, president of ECS Music Publishing, reached out to ask whether the choir would be interested in performing the piece live at Carnegie Hall. Coincidentally, the choir was already rehearsing the same piece for its upcoming December cantata . After a formal audition recording was submitted and accepted, the real work began…
