Battle over bike trails at Bob & Crystal Rilee Park may soon come to a head

If you travel the roads crisscrossing Parrett Mountain you will see them: dozens of signs imploring residents to save an embattled tract of historic land known as Bob & Crystal Rilee Park.

In addition to a museum dedicated to the namesake Rilee family, the 325-acre park features more than 12 miles of trails, created after the Chehalem Park and Recreation District purchased the land for $280,000 in January 2014 from the Crystal Dawn Smith Rilee Foundation.

Although the land was valued at nearly $6 million, the transaction was heavily discounted by the foundation with stipulations that the CPRD protect the land from residential and commercial development and that portions of the parcel be maintained for agricultural use…
