Bicyclist dies after alleged DUI hit-and-run in NW Bakersfield; Driver’s charges upgraded

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A bicyclist died on Monday afternoon after being struck in a hit-and-run crash involving a suspected DUI on Stockdale Highway and Calloway Drive on Saturday, said Bakersfield police.

The 35-year-old driver, Tamera Elsie Popoy, who allegedly drove under the influence, is now charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She was already in custody after her arrest on Saturday.
