Settlement reached after brothers killed in ‘Widowmaker’ crash

JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) — The families of two of the four people who died after their car crashed into an infamous James Island tree will now receive a financial settlement from the City of Charleston and the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

Both SCDOT and the city were accused of not addressing the so-called “Widowmaker” tree on Riverland Drive.

Between $70,000 and $82,000 will be distributed to the estates of two victims of the crash, which took place on November 18, 2023…
