Scams Targeting Grand Rapids Residents: Stay Alert To Fake Police Calls

Here we go again with more scams in our own backyard. This time it is fake police!

Versions of these scams have been going around for awhile, and sadly, people are still falling for them.

The Grand Rapids Police Department says the scam probably comes as a phone call with the scammer posing as a law enforcement officer, someone from the IRS, Social Security, your bank or even Apple and Amazon.

The caller claims there is a supposed warrant out for your arrest and you get  pressured to provide money, typically through electronic means. Maybe they say you have to buy debit cards or gift cards, wire money to a bogus address, or Venmo them the money. Otherwise the police will be knocking on your door…
