Richmond conservation group buys last piece of Mayo Island, plans to transform site move forward

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A Richmond conservation nonprofit organization has acquired the last remaining parcel of Mayo Island, meaning officials can move forward with uninterrupted plans to transform the site into a natural park.

On Tuesday, June 23, city leaders announced that the Capital Region Land Conservancy has acquired the last remaining private quarter-acre parcel on Mayo Island located at 510 S. 14th St. for $675,000. The 15-acre island is now permanently protected from private development and will seamlessly transition into a public park within the James River Park System.
