Arizona State researcher’s unusual discovery could help prevent post-wildfire flooding

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — The Telegraph Fire scorched 180,000 acres in 2021 near Superior, stripping the land of vegetation and eroding and degrading the soil. Little remained to soak in the heavy rains that followed.

The barren land created a flash flood that affected the towns of Miami and Globe. The same conditions fostered deadly flooding last year in Gila County.
