MUSC Health and Cigna extend current contract through August amid negotiations

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — With the deadline for an agreement between the Medical University of South Carolina Health and Cigna Healthcare looming, the two sides approved a 60-day extension to allow for additional time to negotiate a long-term contract.

It is estimated that the contract dispute between Cigna and MUSC Health, which was set to expire on June 30, could have left 30,000 patients across South Carolina facing higher out-of-pocket costs. That day has been pushed back to Aug. 31, 2026.

The 60-day extension ensures that Cigna members will continue to have uninterrupted in-network access to MUSC Health hospitals, physicians, clinics and other health care services while negotiations continue, officials said…
