Live at Idlewild features two days of music

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — There’s a special event coming up on Saturday celebrating the Michigan community of Idlewild, known as Michigan’s Black Eden. Blair Evans is the founder of Live at Idlewild and he joins us in studio today.

Idlewild was an active, year round community from 1912 through the mid 1960s that was visited by well known African American professionals and entertainers from around the country. It was one of the few resorts in the United States where African Americans were allowed to vacation and purchase property before the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Live at Idlewild aims to celebrate heritage and cultural roots with live music, food and also bus tours of the Idlewild community.
