Folks in North Texas may need to reschedule their outdoor plans on Wednesday, June 24. The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning residents of a storm system moving out from New Mexico and toward the Lone Star State.
Forecasters at the agency’s Amarillo office say the radar shows it settling over the western Panhandles. Amarillo, Boise City, and Vega are among those at a Level 2 out of 5 risk of storms turning severe this afternoon. Pampa and many of its surrounding cities are at Level 1 risk, according to NWS standards.
“This potential hinges on how far east storms will survive as they move out of New Mexico through the evening,” the agency wrote on its website. “Any activity that can survive will be capable of large hail and damaging wind gusts upward of 75 mph.”
