Damage reported in northwest suburbs after strong storms roll through

BARTLETT, Ill. (WGN) – Wednesday evening’s storms left behind a path of damage in the northwest suburbs.

At around 6:30 p.m., Dominic Dortmund was taking cover in his Bartlett home near North and Eastern Avenue when a large 250-year-old oak tree came down on the roof.

“We grabbed the dog and ran downstairs. Right as we got upstairs, we saw a tree branch fall from this tree. A few seconds later, we saw it lean towards the street. Then it started going towards the house,” Dortmund said. “Just like a loud boom, and then everything in the house shook a little bit. Even some of the pictures on the wall are crooked.”

In Dortmund’s neighborhood, another tree took down a large power line and snapped the pole near Bartlett Elementary School.
