However, it can be a struggle for many families to get those healthy foods on the table. Going to farmers’ markets like the Fulton St. Market can give direct access to these healthy options, but actually getting to these sources can be difficult for some families.
One such neighborhood is the Creston Neighborhood in Grand Rapids, where a unique new nonprofit grocery store has opened , prioritizing fresh produce that some families may not have been able to access before .
Georgie’s Farm Market: More Than A Grocery Store
The rightly named Georgie’s Farm Market, located at 1364 Plainfield Ave. NE, founded in conjunction with North End Wellness Coalition, the Creston Neighborhood Association, and North End Community Ministry, is a new year-round market that not only offers SNAP benefits but also will soon offer cooking classes to best utilize this fresh produce, as well as fitness and financial literacy.
Currently, Georgie’s Farm Market is open on limited hours:
- 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays
- Fridays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
