Beaufort County transportation penny sales tax on ballot in November

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) – The Beaufort County Council has approved putting a penny sales tax on the ballot in November that will be used to improve certain road conditions..

The ordinance would raise up to $780 million over the next nine years by adding a 1% sales tax to all sales made within the county.

Mortgages and rent, groceries and medical purchases are the main things that are not included in the tax. Everything else, like apparel and restaurant meals, will fall under what is taxed…
