SULLIVAN’S ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – Sullivan’s Island is gearing up for a bustling weekend as thousands are expected to descend for a slate of major events, promising a significant boost to the local economy.
Saturday marks the centerpiece of the festivities, with Carolina Day celebrations, an annual fish fry hosted by the fire department, and surging beach crowds braving near triple-digit temperatures. The National Park Service estimates nearly 10,000 visitors will flock to the island over the weekend.
For local businesses, the influx brings both excitement and a challenge. “Weekends like this kind of make or break the business,” said Samuel Thomas, general manager of The Co-Op on Sullivan’s Island. “We have nine really big weekends in the summer that are huge for us.
