Pop-up parties prompt increased patrols at Roger Williams Park

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) — Newly released body camera footage shows the moment Providence police officers used a taser on a man they say was armed with two machetes, sparking broader safety concerns at Roger Williams Park following a string of recent incidents.

The May 20 confrontation occurred near a popular area of the park, adjacent to local tennis courts and a Little League baseball field.
