Tampa Bay community gathering supplies for those affected by earthquakes in Venezuela

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Residents in the Tampa Bay area are coming together to help those most affected by the two devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.

“[This is] the moment to try to help our country right now, because we need help,” Marlene Bello, a Tampa resident who is from Venezuela, told 8 On Your Side.

Bello was visiting the Caribbean nation when the natural disaster occurred. She is trying to find a way back home, and in the meantime, is coordinating efforts for AMAVEX, an organization that fights for human rights. She is currently on their executive board serving as their secretary.

“It’s [total] destruction. I don’t know how we can recover anything in our country. It can take many years. It’s very hard,” Bello said…
