RIDOT selects vendor to restart truck toll system, cuts rates 25%

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The R.I. Department of Transportation has taken another step toward resuming the state’s truck tolling program and plans to reduce the rates vehicles are charged.

RIDOT told 12 News on Friday that transportation technology company Quarterhill has been awarded a tentative contract to run the back-office system, which will coordinate all billing operations for truck tolls.

The average toll rates at all gantry locations for tractor-trailers are also set to be lowered by 25% following the elimination of caps for the tolling program, according to RIDOT. Those caps were ruled unconstitutional during the legal fight over the program…
