STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City is expected to be impacted by a dangerous heat wave this week, with extreme temperatures extending into the Independence Day holiday weekend.
According to AccuWeather meteorologist Peyton Simmers, although the main heat dome will center around the Ohio Valley, the five boroughs are expected to be very hot, with multiple days in the high 90s and extensive humidity in the days approaching the 250th birthday.
“It’s going to be humid during this time, it is going to feel like a true summer pattern at this point, true heat wave,” said Simmers. “The only relief can come from a sea breeze coming off the bays and the harbors, that can maybe provide some little relief. The real other true relief would be any sort of thunderstorms that can try and develop during the week, but those are going to be pretty few and far between, unfortunately.”…
