The dangerous heat wave heading for NYC could shatter temperature records by Thursday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island faces a potentially dangerous heat event beginning mid-week, with temperatures forecast to reach the upper 90s to lower 100s and heat index values expected to exceed 105 degrees by Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service notes that some record high temperatures could be challenged or broken Thursday if warmer forecast scenarios verify. Most existing records stand at 100 degrees or above.
