Iowa DPS Trooper’s 34-Year Career Shaped Crash Investigations in Southwest Iowa

DES MOINES — Iowa Department of Public Safety Trooper Aaron Nordyke, who joined the department in 1992, has spent much of his 34-year career serving in southwest Iowa and building expertise in technical crash investigations, according to officials.

After completing the academy, Nordyke served with the Capitol Police in Des Moines, where officials said he helped launch the agency’s original bike patrol. He was promoted to trooper in 1994 and assigned to District 3. Officials said he lived in Page County throughout his career.

Nordyke held several specialized roles over the years, including crisis negotiator for 10 years, Honor Guard member for more than 20 years and firearms instructor for more than 18 years.
