North Liberty swaps fireworks for drone show ahead of Independence Day

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The city of North Liberty is trading the boom of fireworks for the hum of drones this year.

After three years of hosting a fireworks display at Penn Meadows Park, the city is moving its annual celebration to Centennial Park. City officials said the area surrounding the new amphitheater is not large enough to safely accommodate the debris field required for a traditional fireworks show.

Instead, North Liberty will host a 15-minute drone show on July 2nd featuring 150 drones synchronized to music. The display will include 13 scenes celebrating America, summer, and North Liberty, including city landmarks and local school logos…
