“Step inside one of the most infamous locations in Waverly Hills Sanatorium and put your investigative skills to the test,” the designers of Waverly’s new escape room wrote. “Can your group uncover the mystery before time runs out?”
Established in 1910 as an innovative facility to combat the tuberculosis epidemic of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Waverly Hills Sanatorium operated for five decades, closing its doors to patients in 1961. Since then, it’s become an international destination for paranormal experts and enthusiasts alike and has secured its reputation as one of the world’s most haunted places.
“Though its doors have been closed to patients for more than half a century, it seems not all the occupants have left the Waverly Hills Sanatorium,” the sanatorium’s website reads. “Many [volunteers] reported unexplained slamming doors and sightings of a mysterious man in white drifting throughout the corridors. Others had run-ins with Timmy, a spectral boy who roams the hallways and likes to play ball. When the facility officially opened to the public for tours, visitors continued to corroborate these experiences.”
