Investing in America: DC’s RFK Stadium project

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — One of the largest investments in our region’s history, the new Washington Commanders stadium project at the old RFK site, is projected to cost more than $3 billion.

DC News Now is celebrating the Spirit of America by taking a look back at historic, transformative investments around the DMV.

The stadium project and surrounding neighborhood development is expected to become the largest and most expensive development in the city’s history, aimed at bringing football back home to D.C., and revitalizing the 180 acres of underdeveloped space surrounding the stadium.

“I would call this the single most transformative investment in the history of the city,” said Brian Hanlon, overseeing it all as the city’s stadium project executive. “While the stadium sits in the middle of this really cool, wonderful plaza area, it is going to be this new urban fabric, about 6,000,000 to 8,000,000 sq ft of development. It will be hospitality, office, retail, recreation, entertainment. I think we’re going to have a feel on the street where it’s going to feel great to live here.”…
